about ayrshire

Ayrshire, the Poetic Heart of Scotland and the home of Open Golf, is a land of green rolling farmland and miles of sandy beaches. Ayrshire also offers a range of unique visitor attractions, which include 'Culzean Castle and Country Park', the jewel in the National Trust for Scotland's crown.
Ayrshire was the home of Scotland's National Bard, Robert Burns, who took poetic and musical inspiration from its people, towns and countryside. His life and works are now celebrated at The Burns National Heritage Park in Alloway, South of Ayr, where he was born.

The area is a mecca for all golfers with some of the finest courses in Scotland. There are over 30 quality courses here, including the two Open Championship Courses at Turnberry and Royal Troon, and the Old Course at Prestwick where the first Open Championship was held in 1860.
Ayr itself has superb shopping, including the Primark Centre featuring all the international brands . Ayr Racecourse is the premier horseracing venue in Scotland, featuring the Ayr Gold Cup ands Scottish Grand National. And the Gaiety Theatre is still a jewel in the crown amongst famous Scottish provincial theatres, hosting superb regular shows and programmes throughout the year.,

From Largs you can take the short trip by ferry to The Isle of Cumbrae and visit Scotland's smallest cathedral or simply hire a bike and cycle your cares away on the safe and quiet roads. And from the spectacular granite peaks and deep glens in the north - a delight for hillwalkers and climbers - to the rolling hills and pasture in the south, the nearby idyllic isle of Arran is indeed an island to treasure too.
