about fouters
Fouters was established in 1977 as a restaurant from an old bank vault – the Ayr bank collapsed in 1772 and the Ayrshire banking company was set up in 1830. Fouters still retains certain original features including the old bank counter and the bank document box. This basement restaurant has been transformed – the biggest change was at the back of the dining room where a wall was exposed back to the original stone and a window was found – all this adds to give Fouters a truly unique atmosphere which is intimate and friendly.
Its next door neighbour for many decades was the famous wine merchant Whighams of Ayr – spearheaded by Ian Cumming – now the Ayrshire home of leading international fine wine merchants Corney and Barrow – ensuring a continuous supply of top quality wines at the restaurant, carefully and expertly chosen, ready for drinking, from all over the world.
Our kitchen team bring a wealth of culinary experience to Fouters, and use it to great effect at this rather special little restaurant – still a veritable jewel in the crown amongst restaurants in Ayr.
